MidiCities ConferenceWhen people talk about cities, they are usually referring to the big metropolises of Sydney, Melbourne and the other capitals. And yet at least four million Australians live and work in cities that are not major capitals. When we take the cities that lie close to the capitals - such as Parramatta near Sydney or Logan near Brisbane - the numbers escalate dramatically. It\\\'s time to turn the national spotlight to our mid-sized cities and put them back on the policy map! Join us in Logan City, South East Queensland, 10-12 July 2012 as we explore: Linking & Sharing: Facilitating exchange of information and experiences, successes and queries - between places, professions, sectors and interests. Understanding: Improved awareness and profile of the issues, opportunities and prospects facing mid-sized cities as a group and individually, based on solid research. Enabling: Strengthening capacity and access to skills, techniques and resources to help mid-sized cities grasp opportunities and fulfill their potential. MidiCities are places of innovation and exploration. They are large enough to take risks, but initmate enough to know what their residents and workers are feeling. Our capitals might be the gateway to the globe, and our regions the source of much wealth, but our mid-sized cities are the glue that holds it all together.
