The Drumley Walk 10-14 AugJoin this annual four day pilgrimage from Beaudesert to Southport, or join in one of the shorter options that follow in the footsteps of Beaudesert identity Billy Drumley. In the early 1900s Drumley regularly trekked through farmland and bush to visit his sister Jenny Graham who lived at Southport with her many children and grandchildren. He encouraged children to be schooled, and older children to gain employment. Australia's first Aboriginal Senator Neville Bonner attributed his only full year of schooling to his time living at Drumley Lane (Drumley's property). Drumley was also an athlete of outstanding ability and forged his living as an expert with a broadaxe. The modern walk is led by Drumley's relatives and ancestors. They impart traditional language, stories and knowledge as you trek the spectacular country that Drumley walked.
